Throwbacks
This spring marks a change for me as I am move to a new location (still in New York), and as I do so it’s a bit of a bittersweet process. I’ve had a lot of history in my current outgoing apartment/studio. A house is just a physical space comprising of four walls and a roof for the most part, but it’s more than just that. It’s been six years of a lot of good memories and a few not so good ones too, but it’s all good, that’s life.
There have been numerous shoots in my place with a lot of people from different parts of the world with different stories, different accents, different personalities, and a few famous faces here and there thrown into the mix as well. It’s a place where I’ve really grown as a photographer and as a person, where I got better and I learned.
The moving process has me looking back at some of my early work that I first did when I got there. Its often makes me smile to see how far I’ve come, and what I was doing differently in those early days, and conversely what I learned back then and still use to this day. As much as I sometimes cringe at my early work, everything that I did is a make up of where I am now and they were the stepping stones of my early learning.
I am thankful for all that I’ve done in my current place and the opportunities I’ve had there. Yet as I look back I’m also looking forward to new histories and even better shoots and opportunities.
